Winter to Spring: Transition Pieces

Winter to Spring: Transition Pieces

Caitlin Rance

It's technically been Spring for a hot second now, but for many places around the world, it definitely doesn't feel like it.

I recently checked the weather app and saw that it was going to be in the 70's in London and almost chucked my phone across the room. I've been waiting for this moment for what feels like FOREVER—as i'm sure many of you have as well. During the winter, there was seriously nothing I loved more than scrolling through pages and pages of warm weather style inspo. It seriously was my favorite Friday night activity (yes Friday night). While there are many obvious pieces to start introducing back into your wardrobe, there are also some not-so-obvious pieces too!

Here are some Spring pieces I'm digging ☺︎

Love a good blazer. Because of the weird in-between weather  Spring brings us, a blazer allows you to switch out your winter coat for something light but still effective. I love this one from Paloma Wool (found it while scrolling through Lisa Says Gah.) Unfortunately a piece like this is definitely not in my budget but you can find these at literally any vintage or thrift store near you. (Go crazy with colors too)

I've been seeing skirts everywhere and think I'm finally going to test out the maxi style. I've always been a bit intimidated by long skirts, mostly because I've never felt like I can wear one that complements my body. With this style I feel like literally anyone can wear it. This style gives you the ability to move and not overheat while also looking chic as hell because you're not completely covered by this long piece of fabric. A win in my book. (side note-I cannot find this exact style ANYWHERE! If I find more I'll link them, however I've linked maxi skirts that still have a high leg cut).

I love love love a black heeled boot. I think these will be in style forever. Now I'm sure you've been wearing this for what feels like ever, but you can still include these in your Spring wardrobe. Because we're not fully enough into Spring where it's warm enough to wear sandals all the time, I find that this is a nicer option to still wear with dressier pieces as opposed to a pair of sneakers or chunky winter boots (though I love both).

Tote bags are definitely not a new thing but I absolutely love them and find that im leaning more towards them when heading out as opposed to a backpack. You can chuck so much stuff in here and it oddly makes me more inclined to spend more time outside (I can carry a water bottle, my film camera, some snacks, a notebook or book and an umbrella if it rains!) You can get these for dirt cheap and while I highly recommend not spending more than like $20 I had to include this one because I'm a Matisse fan!

With the warming weather I like to wear my hair up more. I've become obsessed with scrunchies + scarfs/ribbons. I think you can really make an outfit look funky (in a good way) by accessorizing your hair. I absolutely love this scrunchie by Free People. It's a pretty good price and gives off the perfect eighties vibes.

With the sun finally peaking out for longer than a few hours, sunnies are a must in your transition. I've been really into square shaped sunnies and think they complement basically everyones face. I don't think I've seen someone don this style and not look chic so have no fears. You can also find this style for next to nothing and I've included a few pairs down below.

Wide cut style pants (sometimes culottes if they're wide ENOUGH) are suuuuch a game changer for the new season. I normally wouldn't be able to wear these during the winter without understanding my legs would be frozen, but now I wear these with a cheesy smile on my face. Culottes give you the perfect amount of air flow so you never get too hot or too cold. There's also a whole spectrum of culottes. You can go super wide and short or slightly wide and long. Whatever your heart desires honestly.
