“A bit of NYC kookiness mixed with Los Angeles it-girl,” I reply, describing how I see Dakota Fanning's personal style to a friend peering over at my screen which is filled with images from my google search:
I’ve been a fan of Dakota’s work for what feels like forever. Starting out as a child actress, I feel like I practically grew up with her constantly on my tv screen (mostly because I'd watch Uptown Girls 24/7 but still).
As personal style seems to be a bit tough to cultivate nowadays—especially with our oversaturated feeds filled with influencer after influencer wearing the same pieces—I often find myself gravitaing towards google search and the words:
“__________ street style 2017/2018.”
Recently, that blank has been filled with Dakota Fanning—maybe the chicest 24 year old I'm aware of IMO.
What I love most about Dakota’s personal style is the (what seems at least to me) no-fuss or overdone nature of it all.
Being 24, and a successful actress, she's got places to go and people to see. Dakota also happens to take up residence in NYC—a place if you're not walking around, you're on packed trains (and very rarely ubering/cabbing).
Because of NYC's means of transportation, you can almost never look absolutely perfect while running errands around the city, catching meetings, and even meeting a friend for an afternoon pick-me-up unless you're in an air conditioned car for all of it.
However, Dakota always finds a way of looking comfortable, practical and most importantly: CHIC.
I’m quite sure I’m not the only one, but I constantly feel this pressure to dress older than I actually am. To look sexier, to look more mature—when I barely even know how to make a baked potato or iron a shirt (yes i’m learning but you get the point.) Her style just never seems to veer from the age and point in her life that she's in. Like herself, the style grows with Dakota.
