My life, my style and my personality are basically just bits and pieces of all the best movies I've seen. Watching movies is probably one of my favorite things to do, so when I watch one that really inspires me or affects me in some way, I not only can't forget it, but also need to make sure everyone else experiences It. These are (in my opinion) the best cult-classics. A majority of these films are available for streaming on Netflix!
This movie came on the other night which inspired me to do this blog post! The aesthetics alone in this movie completely inspired me style wise-it's such a quintessential 80's film. St Elmos Fire follows a group of college graduates navigating the 'real world' and it's all kinds of drama, love, and partying. Did I mention It feature members of the Rat Pack AND Demi Moore? Now you know.
Me emo king! I literally don't know why I love this movie so much (it literally makes no sense and yet I gladly watched It for the 35th time in a park in Brooklyn this past Summer). Donnie Darko features a very young Jake Gyllenhaal (YES!) who basically experiences this crazy freak accident and then goes on this weird journey of learning what it's like to be alive and really live life in a way? I really can't explain you just gotta watch!
UGH this movie just has the best clothing. This movie follows Vivian (played by Natasha Lyonne) as she struggles to grow up in Beverly Hills in the 1970's.
If you haven't seen The Craft yet LITERALLY what are you doing? Basically the quintessential witch girl movie, The Craft follows Sarah who's recently transferred schools and also happens to have powers. Having not found her 'group' yet, she meets three girls who are basically wannabe witches-lotssssssss of drama ensues. This movie is literally my religion 10/10 would recommend.
WOW. This movie is like one of my absolute favorites. I still remember going to see this one random night in Rochester with my mom and being so in awe. This movie is based on the comic, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The movie follows Scott who found his mani-pixie-dream girl but finds out he has to defeat all of her ex-boyfriends before he can truly date her (I love this concept). Brie Larson happens to be in the movie and has an EPIC look + performance.
Just an all around perfect 90's movie. It features babes like Liv Tyler, Reneé Zellweger and Robin Tunney. This movie focuses on a group of very cool teenagers who work at Empire Records and soon learn that the store will potentially be sold to a large chain. Obviously they can't let that happen....
