You may be familiar with Madelynn if you're a YouTube fan girl like myself, but if you're not, you're in for a sweet sweet treat. This week I got to know a little bit about Madelynn of La Madelynn and learn about how she deals with major things like being far away from home to if she's a glossy or matte type of girl!
You live in California. What do you think it is about California that draws people there?
It’s gotta be the weather. Seeing palm trees again is my favorite part about coming back home!
If you could get on a plane and go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
JAPAN! If you haven’t been yet it’s a must.
I absolutely love your videos, especially the ones with a creative concept behind them. It’s obvious you’re inspired by many things, including cinema, and that a lot of hard work goes into creating and producing these videos. So with that being said, what does it feel like when you either see comments from people who don’t get what you’re trying to do, or leave negative comments, and how do you deal with that?
Thank you! To have someone leave negative comments or tell you your video should have been done differently is upsetting. But I’m also not here to do what everyone else is doing on YouTube. I try not to let those comments get to me because I know I’m good at what I do and I’m proud of everything I put up. You could be snarky back but that’s not going to get you very far (I’ve learned this), so just keep on pushing out content that YOU think is cool, and don’t let the negative comments influence your work.
In one of your videos, you spoke about moving from the comfort of your home area to Los Angeles. What’s some advice you could give to someone out there who’s struggling with being far away from home right now?
IT’S GOING TO BE OKAY!! Take this time to be by yourself and explore on your own! I think once you’re truly happy and comfortable with yourself everything else will fall into place (work, love, friends, etc.). Or you could just get a dog. ;-)
Who are you listening to right now?
Young Man + Mac Demarco!
We live in a time where it’s even more possible to pursue your passions without a college degree. While some people still heavily believe in going to college, others don't. What’s your take on it?
I wouldn’t trade my college experience if I had the chance to do it over again. I went to school for elementary education and did women’s studies, animal rights, social justice stuff, etc., and it was incredible. I definitely don’t think college is necessary, but you do grow and learn from it and meet some incredible people along the way!
Because you work with such creative concepts behind your videos, could you ever see yourself directing anything film wise?
YES! I’ve been thinking about this for so long. I don’t know what will end up happening in the future - I think I’m still trying to find my voice. However, short films are coming!
How do you feel about the term Cool Girl?
Sounds pretty cool to me!
What’s one thing that you feel women struggle with the most?
For me personally I feel like I’m constantly not being taken seriously. And I really struggle with people mistaking my kindness for weakness. Unfortunately, I’m sure a lot of women find themselves battling this too.
Who do you think (on Youtube) is the most underrated?
Jujusquad + taraola
We all get in funks, and when we get in them, it’s hard to get out. What’s something you do when you’re feeling a bit blue?
I go buy a nice pair of jeans and go out to eat by myself haha - it’s liberating!
You also happen to work for ipsy, a company I recently just subscribed to! What have been your favorite products you’ve gotten to test out from ipsy?
