Contrary to popular belief, the eighties weren't only leg warmers and teased hair. While those are seemingly fun aspects to the wild and sometimes cringey decade, the introduction of power suiting and dance inducing colors are only some of the many fashion-forward shakeups that memorialize the decade.
Pulling inspiration from decades past seems more and more familiar as time moves forward. From scrunchies, and chokers, to bell bottoms and members only jackets, we've relived it all and have the Instagram's to prove it.
While the fascination with these decades and their garb never ceases, what I find even better than that is the almost instantaneous move to add a personal 21st century twist to each and every trend revival.
If we're wearing a neon vinyl miniskirt, we're paring it with this seasons Gucci graphic tee and Van Sk8-Highs.
If we're wearing a houndstooth blazer we're paring it with a Thrasher tee, some Rag & Bone skinny’s and Miu-Miu ballet flats.
Nothing seems to ever be left in the dust these days, even if the trend is deemed 'over.' No trend is ever actually over, but rather shelved until its time comes again, or, being if it wins the lottery, incorporated into the daily outfits of the personal style elite.
As a self-proclaimed lover of the 80's, nothing makes me more excited than the revival of the 80's. Take a look at some visual inspiration, play some songs, and take a trip back.
