Her godmother is Cher, her parents are the creators of Chrome Hearts, she sings, she dances, she creates. This weeks Style Spotlight is: Jesse Jo Stark. Jesse Jo is a jack of all trades, and with a name like that it would be hard to not want to say HELLO WORLD at any moment you got.
I first got encapsulated by Jesse after seeing photos of her pop up on Tumblr. I was probably 12 at the time, and we were basically in the peak phase of the Cobra Snake. Everything in life was messy, colorful, and wild. If you're not familiar with The Cobra Snake's work, I highly encourage you to check it out. Mark (The Cobra Snake) kind of blew up around the middle 2000's with his LA night life photography. His work featured some of the coolest teenagers and young adults living lives that we could only dream of.
My favorite subject of Marks was Jesse (as well as Atlanta, also featured as a style spotlight wink wink.) What I learned and loved about Jesse was personal style and dressing your age. I know the words dressing for your age sound confining but I don't look at like criticizing some 40 year old for dressing like their 20 but rather criticizing ourselves and other young adults for not looking more put together. Still a bit confusing? Let me explain:
As young adults were constantly searching for ourselves, and a way of doing that is through clothing. Sometimes like most, I can't help but critique the way I dress. I criticize myself for not looking put together or refined but then it dawns on me: I'M 19 AND MESSY IS IN! While I'm totally here for a pant suit, I know I'm not in that phase of my life yet. I fully believe this is the time to experiment and see what works for you and speaks for you. By doing this, over time you refine your personal style and introduce your touch into more refined looks as you get older.
I've included my favorite looks of Jesse Jo's which encompass a time period of her teenage years to her twenties. Notice how her style has changed over time and how she introduces personal touches into more refined pieces.
