Were back with another Cool Girl of The Week and I couldn't be more excited. Though I've interviewed my fair share of ultimate cool girls, this one is a bit more special because this cool girl is not only a girl boss, but also happens to be my best friend! I had such an amazing time interviewing Emily and if theres one thing you'll learn from her, (it's everything.)
Let’s start right off the bat, you’re 19 years old and you have your own clothing line (Shop Emily Jordan). How the hell did that happen?
Well let’s see, the storybook of Emily Jordan started my junior year of high school. I took a printmaking class where we were assigned to make a textile from one of our paintings or doodles. I went home and made 50. I found my nitch and had this insane idea to make a top with my own printed sleeves. Now I’m so lucky to be at a stage that I’m able to take my line to the next level with a full, true collection coming Spring/Summer 2017!
How would you describe the Shop Emily Jordan girl?
The SEJ girl has a bohemian spirit, a life full of love and adventure, and a closet full of killer prints!
Is there anyone in particular, besides yourself, who inspired the look of your line?
I love beach babe Halley Elfante’s style! She’s @the_salty_blonde on Insta. I also designed my upcoming collection with the SEJ Girl in mind! She’s effortless & that’s definitely a quality that all my new pieces have!
Top five favorite beauty products?
You’re the biggest accessory girl I know. What is it about accessories that takes an outfit from a 7 to a 10?
Accessories give an outfit character. Sometimes I wake up thinking more is more! I’ll layer a bunch of delicate necklaces, throw on a leather choker, stack on my silver rings, squeeze on a geode metal cuff and I’m ready to go!
What are five items you think every girl should have in her closet?
Where do you see yourself and your business in the next 5 years?
I’d like to dream that Emily Jordan will be sold in stores on both coasts, seen on some bohemian icons, & inspiring female entrepreneurs to make their dreams their reality.
When was the last time you cried?
Last weekend at Miami Swim Week lol
When was the last time you laughed so hard you almost peed your pants?
Watching puppy videos with my mom yesterday. No joke.
Describe your dream outfit
Pajamas! But actually, an Emily Jordan dress (coming 2017) with a pair of nude lace up sandals and the jewelry ensemble mentioned earlier!
If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Israel. Every time I visit, I am reminded of how special our world is & my spark for life is fueled.
When do you feel the most you?
When I’m alone in my car and I can sing One Direction.
Who’s your favorite designer?
Forever & Always, Diane von Furstenberg!
What’s one song that you know all the lyrics to and could belt out right now?
Ha! If you know me then you know lyrics are not my thing. So probably 1985 by Bowling for Soup, my mom & I love that song!
Was there ever a moment when you were nervous to release your line because of what others might think?
I don’t think I was nervous to start Emily Jordan when I first announced this venture. I was more excited about the possibility and the ability to share with my family and good friends what I was cooking up for months! Now that I’m taking such a huge step in completely re-launching Emily Jordan, I’m curious to get feed back from those who have supported me thus far!
Obviously the fashion world is super cut throat, yet somehow still so attractive. What do you think it is about the fashion world that keeps people coming back despite its controversies?
Fashion is history. I always say that because I think that’s why I love fashion so much. It is as simple as that. A Chanel handbag tells a story of the test of time, a legacy that Coco Chanel has left. A vintage leather belt tells a story of hard work and attention to detail. A pair of trendy sandals is a snap shot in time, a piece of that era. Fashion is history.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, and what’s one piece of advice you could give to someone who is interested in starting their own business?
The best piece of life advice I’ve ever been given was to be nice to everyone, and everyone is someone. I’ve actually been asked this a bunch of times and I’ve narrowed it down to this. Starting a business takes time and love. When you can pick yourself up when you fall, that is what will set your success aside from the next person’s. Business is definitely hard, so if you can accept when you fail and take that as a learning lesson, then you’re in for the amazing journey!

You’re in school right now, what’s the biggest lesson that you’ve learned so far that you think will always relate to your life?
Relationships are a two way street! You don’t realize the importance of this somewhat cliché saying until you have coordinates in between you and your loved ones. Whether that be a romantic relationship, friendship, or relationship with your mom and dad, it all boils down to relationships are a two way street.
How do you feel about the term cool girl?
Labeling someone as a cool girl, to me, is someone who has created something for themselves and is writing their own story.
And lastly, your fashion secret?
Dress for yourself, and no one else
