So you’re kind of the 70’s Dream Queen. When did you first discover the 70’s, fashion, music, film and all? and what attracted you about this decade?
Haha no way! But I’m super flattered by that. I honestly have no idea when it all actually happened but I know that Jimi Hendrix and his amazing style was kind of the initial starting point of my obsession with 60’s and 70’s fashion. I pretty much owe everything to rock ‘n roll. It’s influenced my interests and overall lifestyle in so many ways.
You also have an Etsy vintage shop which I’m actually IN LOVE with! Where do you tend to get your pieces from? & do you see this becoming an actual brand, kind of similar to how Nasty Gal started & has become right now?
Thank you! I usually just go around to random thrift stores & flea markets hoping for the best haha. If it were to grow into something as huge as Nasty Gal I sure as heck wouldn't be mad about it!
Going back to your shop, what would you say was the hardest part about starting it, and the most fulfilling part about it?
The hardest part of it all was definitely figuring the whole shipping thing out! And the most fulfilling is hands down seeing/hearing that my customers are happy and satisfied with their purchases!
5 pieces you think every girl should have in her closet?
- Vintage Penny Lane style coat
- Oversized band tees
- Outrageous out-there shoes
- Comfy velvet bell bottoms
- Suede everything and anything
Who would you say is your favorite designer?
When it comes to shoes it’s Donald J. Pliner. I’m currently obsessed with the Western Couture Collection boots and am trying to hunt as many of them down! Fashion wise it’s a toss up between vintage Biba, Halstons, YSL & Celine.
Who would you say is an icon in your eyes?
David Bowie & Cher
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I have no idea, but hopefully surrounded by a rad vintage platform shoe collection and lots of dogs!
How do you feel about the term “cool girl?”
I think it’s a spot on way to describe girls because we’re all pretty damn cool.
What do you think is probably the biggest struggle girls are facing right now in our world?
I think one of the biggest things is the negativity a lot of girls show towards each other. I see it happening all the time, and its so sad. Just be nice to each other, ya know? We’re all on the same team.
Your makeup is always flawless! What top 5 beauty products do you recommend for someone who maybe is just testing the waters & getting into makeup?
Ah, thank you! Some of my favorite things I think everyone should have are:
- Maybeline’s Fit Me Foundation
- Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Mascara
- Contour Palette (I use the Kat Von D. one but there are a lot of other great affordable ones!)
- NYX’s Matte Lip Creams (London, Abu Dhabi & Stockholm are my personal faves)
- Highlighter! I really like Opal by Becca Cosmetics
- I know I’m cheating by listing 6 but we can’t forget about brows! Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow pomade is a heaven sent!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Just fucking do it!”
Who are you listening to (musically) right now?
Right this second I’m listening to Elvira by The Oak Ridge Boys. But besides that, I’ve been listening to a lot of Black Flag and The Doors lately.
Okay you have the option to time travel back to the 70’s, what are you going to do & who are you going to see?
I’d go to Studio 54, get down on the dance floor with Cher & Mick Jagger.
